How to Write an Abstract

Are you ready to submit your abstract? The ISOPP Research Committee has prepared a resource on how to write an abstract for a scientific meeting.  A useful tool guiding you in the process of preparing a well-written abstract, especially if it is your first time.  Review the guide for some ‘tips and tricks’.

Acceptance Notification
The submitting author will be notified of acceptance by email the week of November 14, 2022.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

Acceptance Submission and Review Timeline
The deadline for abstract submission is Thursday, October 20, 2022, 11:59pm UTC. 
Peer review by the Abstract Review Task Force will take place between Friday, October 21 and Friday, November 18. 
The submitting author will be notified of acceptance by email the week of November 21, 2022.
 
Presenting Author Registration
The presenting author MUST register for ISOPP 2023 by Wednesday, December 7, 2022 or the abstract will automatically be withdrawn.
 
Conflict of Interest Disclosure
During the abstract submission process, you will be asked to disclose any conflict of interest.
 
Author Information

The first author MUST be the presenting author.
Information required from all authors:

  • Name
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Affiliation
  • ISOPP member or non-member
Preferred Presentation Type

Please select one of the following presentation options during online abstract submission:
     1. Platform or Poster (only ISOPP and GEDEFO (SEFH) members will be considered for platform (oral) presentations)
     2. Poster
Encore presentations are only accepted as posters.

Abstract Categories
  1. Process Improvement/Pharmacoeconomics (PR): includes drug preparation and delivery, projects to enhance patient care or improve effectiveness or efficiency of pharmacy services; cost-benefit analyses; cost-effectiveness analyses
  2. Clinical Science (CS): includes oncology/pharmacy practice; MUEs; innovative patient care services/activities; unusual/unique clinical and/or management cases; projects to document pharmacy interventions
  3. Translational/Basic Science (TS): pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacogenomics
  4. Trainee (TR): Student/Resident Fellow/Pharmacy intern/pharmacist-in-training, etc.
  5. Encore Presentation (EN): For data/abstract that has previously been presented at another meeting or published in profession journal
Abstract Title

The abstract title must be less than 150 characters. If the title is longer than 150 characters, you will not be able to submit your abstract. Please use title case e.g. Upper and Lower Case and NOT UPPER CASE.

Abstract Length

The abstract length is limited to 500 words not including the abstract title, author names or affiliations.

Abstract Content

The submission system will prompt you to follow the following abstract format:

  1. Objective/Purpose
  2. Study Design/Methods
  3. Results/Key Findings
  4. Conclusion/Recommendations
  5. Sources of Funding

Abstracts must describe completed research (abstracts that contain results and conclusions).

Language

Abstracts are accepted in English only.

Number of Submissions

There is no limit to the number of abstract submissions, as long as the presenting author is present at the poster during the Poster and Exhibit Viewing Session in the afternoon of Friday, March 3, 2023.

Platform Presentation Information

The platform presentations will be scheduled during one plenary and one concurrent session. Each presentation is scheduled for 15 minutes including questions from the audience. Presentation specifics will be communicated to the submitting author closer to the Symposium date. The first author must be the presenting author - they will receive a certificate of presentation. 

 

Poster Display Details

Posters will be on display on poster boards in the Exhibit Hall (Foyer + Galeria) on Ground Floor in the Barceló Sevilla Renacimiento on Thursday, March 2 to Saturday, March 4, 2023.

Poster Specifications

  • Posters are to be portrait and size A0 (84.1 x 118.9 cm). 
  • All posters must be displayed on poster material. Sheets of A4 will not be accepted.
  • Materials must be readable from a distance of 3 feet or more
  • The font used must be a minimum of 20 points and in bold format
  • Industry-sponsored posters must clearly be identified as such - please state on your poster "Sponsored by (Company name/s)"
     
Poster Viewing Session Attendance - Mandatory

Presenting authors must be present during the Refreshment Break on Thursday, March 2 at 15:30-16:15 and the Poster and Exhibit Viewing Session on Friday, March 3 at 15:45-16:45.   

 

Poster Award

Poster presentations will be judged by the ISOPP Research Committee and the best poster will be awarded with a certificate. Presenting authors have to be ISOPP or GEDEFO (SEFH) members. Encore presentations are not eligible for the Poster Award.
