Safe Handling Toolkit
ISOPP’s work continues in its mission to advance oncology pharmacy care for patients globally, with the creation of the ISOPP Safe Handling Toolkit of Resources in collbaroration with The Global Power of Oncology Nursing (GPON).
Safe handling of hazardous drugs is a shared responsibility for oncology nurses and pharmacy professionals. The ISOPP Safe Handling Toolkit provides practical, evidence-based resources to support safe preparation, administration, transport, and disposal of cytotoxic and other hazardous therapies.
This toolkit includes guidance on engineering controls (BSCs and isolators), appropriate PPE, use of closed-system transfer devices (CSTDs), spill management, risk assessment, and incident reporting. Designed for real-world clinical practice, it supports competency development, policy implementation, and the promotion of a strong safety culture.
By standardising safe handling practices across pharmacy and nursing teams, ISOPP and GPON aim to reduce occupational exposure and protect both patients and healthcare professionals.
"The Global Power of Oncology Nursing (GPON) is delighted to collaborate with ISOPP in the development of the Safe Handling Toolkit. By working together, we strive to advance safe, personalised treatment and care for people with cancer.”
