Advocacy Committee
The Advocacy Committee is committed to advocate for the advancement of oncology pharmacy.
Our main objectives are to:
- Collaborate with other organizations on advocacy projects
- Support the development of the pharmacy workforce and capacity planning
- Support access to cancer treatment and supportive care medicines
- Increase the number of global oncology pharmacy publications and research projects in conjunction with the Research Committee
The Advocacy Committee is open to oncology pharmacy professionals from around the world to advance oncology pharmacy together, and provides an opportunity for ISOPP members who would like to gain experience in oncology pharmacy beyond borders by volunteering.
ISOPP Contributes to Global Health Policy
We are proud to share that several ISOPP members from the ISOPP Advocacy committee, chaired by Esin Kandemir, played a pivotal role in shaping the 25th WHO Expert Committee on the Selection and Use of Essential Medicines report.
Their expertise in oncology pharmacy helped guide decisions that impact access to essential cancer treatments worldwide. This work highlights the value of oncology pharmacy voices in global essential medicines policy.

Summary of Committee Priorities for This Year
- Position paper on healthcare disparities in oncology pharmacy: ISOPP aims to raise awareness about healthcare disparities in oncology pharmacy by writing a position paper on this topic. Currently, members are working in subgroups and online meetings are used to facilitate discussion around the work.
- WHO Essential Medicines List Update: This year WHO's meeting for the Essential Medicines List (EML) will be held from May 5th to 9th in Switzerland. Advocacy Committee members are expected to provide insights from their practice regarding proposals for addition of certain drugs to the list. Please see below for previous work on this topic.
