ISOPP/JOPP Best Paper Awards
The ISOPP/JOPP Best Paper Awards recognize articles published in the Journal of Oncology Pharmacy Practice (JOPP) for the calendar year before the current ISOPP symposia that describe an innovation in oncology pharmacy practice (Oncology Pharmacy Practice Best Paper Award) and scientific research (Oncology Pharmacy Research Best Paper Award).
ISOPP/JOPP Oncology Pharmacy Practice Best Paper Award
This award recognizes an ISOPP member who has written an article that contributes significantly to advancing the hematology/oncology pharmacy profession and describes improvements in community, hospital, or healthcare system hematology/oncology pharmacy practices. The innovations described should be applicable beyond the practice site and ideally on a global scale.
Oncology pharmacy practice is the specialty of pharmacy that incorporates the knowledge, skills, and expertise of pharmacy practice with a focus on hematology and oncology malignancies and refers to all aspects of professional practice, including administration, management, drug use control, technological services, clinical services, information processing, and new practice models.
ISOPP/JOPP Oncology Pharmacy Research Best Paper Award
This award recognizes an author who has written an important scientific article describing hematology/oncology pharmacy translational research (https://ctsi.ucla.edu/overview/mission-and-vision/the-translational-research-spectrum).
Eligible publications describe research related to hematology/oncology pharmacy practice that use the formal scientific method. Some examples include, but are not limited to studies of:
• clinical effects of cancer treatment or supportive care medications
• closed-system transfer or other safe-handling devices
• management of adverse effects
• meta-analyses
• pharmacodynamic/pharmacokinetic/pharmacogenetics
• real-world analyses of medication use
• stability/compatibility
• systematic reviews
Award
The ISOPP/JOPP Best Paper award recipients will be recognized at the ISOPP Symposia with a plaque.
Eligibility and Nomination
Nominations should be submitted on the ISOPP/JOPP Oncology Pharmacy Practice and Oncology Research Best Paper Awards Submission Form (click here for form). Self-nominations are allowed. Nominees and nominator(s) must be an ISOPP member for at least the last three (3) consecutive years. The nominated author must be the primary, lead, or senior author. A copy of the paper must be submitted with the nomination form.
Nominations are closed. The deadline for nominations for 2026 awards will be announced in the latter half of 2025.
Evaluation
The ISOPP Awards & Grants Task Force will establish a selection workgroup consisting of one member of the JOPP Advisory Board (JAB), one member of the JOPP Editorial Board, and one or more members of the ISOPP Awards & Grants Task Force. The composition of the selection workgroup and the award decision-making process must reflect ISOPP’s commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). This includes considerations for diverse representation across geography, gender, career stage, and professional background. Submissions should be assessed with sensitivity to the unique challenges faced by authors from underrepresented or resource-limited settings, such as language barriers and limited access to research infrastructure. Evaluation should prioritize the significance, innovation, and contextual relevance of the work, recognizing its impact relative to available resources and feasibility.
Selection workgroup members must declare any real or potential conflicts of interest (COI) for each paper they are asked to evaluate by completing the ISOPP COI form before evaluating the paper.
The submissions will be judged using the approved evaluation form. The ISOPP/JOPP Awards Task Force selection workgroup will make a recommendation for award selection for each category. The selection workgroup can recommend that no award be for each category.
Note: The selection workgroup reserves the right to change the category of Best Paper Award selected by the nominator to the type that more appropriately reflects the eligibility criteria for the submitted article. The nominator will be notified if a category change is made.
