ISOPP & BOPA Joint Webinar: Sitting in the opposite chair, part of London Global Cancer Week - 2025
Description:
This session offers a unique perspective on cancer care through the eyes of a consultant cancer pharmacist, Emma Foreman, who became a pancreatic cancer patient. It explores how professional expertise can both help and complicate the patient journey, revealing the emotional, physical, and systemic challenges faced when sitting “on the other chair.”
Through personal storytelling and reflection, the speaker will share their path from initial symptoms to diagnosis and treatment — highlighting moments where clinical knowledge provided clarity, as well as times when it heightened anxiety or created unexpected dilemmas.
The conversation will also explore the global implications of equitable access to medicines and care, with reflections on how these challenges may be magnified in low- and middle-income countries.
Attendees will leave with practical insights into integrating patient voices into oncology pharmacy education, advocacy, and daily practice, and will be inspired to approach cancer care with deeper empathy and patient-centered focus.
