Professional Societies & Patient Organisations’ Perspectives on Oral Anti-Cancer Treatment

Dear Madam or Sir,

The growing use of oral chemotherapy in cancer care presents a significant opportunity to improve patient convenience and enable more treatment to be administered at home. This is particularly beneficial for patients who live far from specialised cancer centres, reducing travel time and logistical burden on both patients and caregivers.

At the same time, oral chemotherapy introduces new challenges related to patient counselling, adherence, safety, and coordination between healthcare professionals.

The Committee of Experts on Quality and Safety Standards in Pharmaceutical Practices and Pharmaceutical Care (CD-P-PH/PC - https://go.edqm.eu/PC) of the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare (EDQM - https://www.edqm.eu/) (Council of Europe) has launched a project with the aim of developing a guidance document to support healthcare professionals in providing appropriate advice to patients being treated for cancer.

This survey seeks to explore current practices and gather insights from healthcare professionals across Europe regarding patient counselling for oral anti-cancer treatments. The ultimate goal is to identify common practices, national frameworks, and areas where additional guidance or harmonisation may be beneficial.

Your answers will be kept confidential. All data will be analysed and reported in aggregate form, and no individual or organisation will be identified.

The survey will remain open until 31/07/2025.

Thank you very much for your time and contribution.

Yours sincerely,
