Letter of Intent
Irene Weru
Kenya
Dear ISOPP Colleagues,
I am seeking election as ISOPP President-Elect to strengthen our global community and translate oncology pharmacy expertise into safer, more equitable cancer care.
My practice and leadership are grounded in solid preparation. I hold a Bachelor of Pharmacy and a Master of Pharmacy in Clinical Pharmacy from the University of Nairobi, a Postgraduate Diploma in Hospital Management, and certification in Global Health Policy and Advocacy from the University of Washington. Currently serving as Head of Clinical Pharmacy at Kenyatta National Hospital and founding Chair of the Oncology Pharmacists Society of Kenya (OPSOK), I bring over two decades of experience spanning clinical care, health policy, research, and education as an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Nairobi and Kabarak University.
Attending my first ISOPP symposium in Prague in 2010 inspired my deep commitment to oncology pharmacy. My dedication to our Society and profession is reflected in my service as ISOPP Secretary (2021–2025), Education Committee Chair (Current) and several committee memberships through the years I have been an ISOPP member. These roles have deepened my understanding of our Society, the dedication of our volunteers, and the diverse realities of oncology practice worldwide.
Building on our foundation and the work of past and current leaders, my priorities are to Expand Practical Education and Research, Foster Mentorship & Exchange and Enhance Inclusion & Advocacy.
I am committed to transparent governance and sustainable partnerships that preserve ISOPP’s independence while ensuring sound stewardship. ISOPP has profoundly enriched my journey, and I am eager to offer collaborative, accountable leadership so every member feels represented, supported, and equipped to elevate care for people affected by cancer, wherever they practice.
Sincerely,
Irene Weru
