By Alex Chan, ISOPP Past President, United States

The Egyptian Foundation of Clinical Pharmacy (EFCP), which is a member organization of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), organized a webinar to celebrate the World Pharmacists Week on September 29, 2020.

The theme of the webinar was ‘Transforming Global Health; Egypt Focus”, and the webinar was hosted by Dr. Mahmoud Abdelrahman who is the President of EFCP. The goal of the webinar was to provide a platform to allow pharmacy leaders from numerous international/national organizations as well as universities to connect with Egyptian colleagues to discuss strategies on pharmacy transformation. As the leading global oncology pharmacy society, ISOPP was invited to present in this webinar.

Other societies that were involved in this webinar included the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP), European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP), and European Society of Clinical Pharmacy (ESCP).

The first segment of the webinar provided a 5-minute sharing by each individual society on their latest updates and how can they potentially advance pharmacy care in Egypt. Dr. Alex Chan represented ISOPP to present at this meeting, providing an update related to the committees, projects and meetings of the Society.

The second segment of the webinar involved a panel discussion on a series of questions related to the transformation process of pharmacy practice in Egypt. At the end of the meeting, Dr. Abdelrahman proposed to build an expert panel from various organizations and universities, with an overall aim to discuss the transformation process of pharmacy practice within Egypt. In summary, EFCP looks forward to support and partner with ISOPP with their oncology pharmacy-related initiatives in the near future.
